I'm a frequent visitor of MLB blogs.
I enjoy the 700level and other Phillies-related blog. Moreover, I'm a fan of other teams blogs.
Notably, Metsblog.com.
Metsblog.com is, in my opinion, the best of the best. It's very well-organized with an array of different reporters and opinion covering the game. I frequently lurk there to get a sense of how Mets fans are reacting to their team.
And time after time, I get the same impression: Mets fans hate their team.
I know what it's like to jump off the bridge after a loss. Philadelphians are negative for a reason., We haven't won a major championship in 25 years. We're bitter.
But the whining, complaining and the I-want-him-fired mentality of Mets fans is alarming. Why? Because there's always a consistency to it. It's funny how Mets fans love the team after a win, and flatout despise the players after a loss. It appears there is no happy medium -- nothing to take solace in after a disappointing loss.
Which brings us to the Phillies' 3-2 win on Friday.
Johan Santana pitched eight strong innings and Mets fans are all over the guy. They say that Santana isn't pitching like an ace because an ace would have never allowed two runs to score with two outs.
Wow.
How can anyone put blame on Santana? Other than giving up back-to-back singles to Ryan Howard and Pat Burrell with two outs in the sixth, Santana acted very much like the ace he is. You know what? Those two singles were great pieces of hitting by Howard and Burrell. Howard literally NEVER goes the other way (unless he homers) and Burrell, well, Burrell was very patient with his at-bat.
Mets fans, why are you killing Santana?
When I was watching the game, I had zero confidence the Phillies would tie it with Santana in there. I figured they'd might be able to scratch a run, but that's it. Maybe Chase Utley would hit a solo homer (as he did the first time the Phillies met Santana) and they'd take their chance with Billy Wagner in the ninth inning. Santana was dealing... but, to my surprise, the Phillies put together a string of hits in the sixth and scored two runs. I was very, very surprised.
Santana's starts are going to waste because the offense is poor. There isn't one player not named David Wright in that lineup that worries me. Jose Reyas is a sparkplug, but I still don't think he's a very good situational hitter (i.e. he isn't clutch). Carlos Delgado is declining at rapid speed. Carlos Beltran seems lost and looks at too many pitchers.
Who else do the Mets have? Oh, Ryan Church: He's pretty good, I'll admit.
Damion Easley? Fernando Tatis? Ramon Castro? Chris Aqulia? Brian Schneider? Endy Chavez?
Yawn.
Listen, I think the Mets are way better than what they've shown. However, unless the offense starts to click, the Phillies pitching will figure out how to get these guys out. Hopefully, that'll continue this weekend, as the Phillies have a chance to bury the Mets in the division standings.
So here's to breaking the collective heart of Mets fans.
Cheers.

You happen to be right in what you're saying, but being from NY, I must say that it's the fans of NY sports teams in general that act like that, not just Met fans.
Believe me, I know. I spent a year in NY and know what the fans in general are like. Believe it or not, Philly and NY fans are very, very similar. We both trash the other fanbase for being classless and negative, etc. We're walking, talking contradictions. LOL.
What I don't understand is that the Mets fans seem very disgruntled this year. I know there's good reasoning to it, I just think it's way off-base to come down on a guy like Santana, who any other team would die to have. You know better than anyone else that Santana isn't getting the run support. He could easily be a 13 or 14-game winner at this point.
For me, the Mets/Philly rivalry is all in good fun. As much as I would have liked to seen the Phillies sweep in four games, the Mets winning last night added more fuel to the fire. That's a good thing.
couldn't agree with you more Matt.
