The New York Mets sent two players to last night's 79th All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium which was won by the American League in 15 innings by a score of 4-3. They sent Third Baseman David Wright and Pitcher Billy Wagner.
David Wright got into the game in the top of the 8th inning when hit pitch hit for Cardinal First Baseman Albert Pujols. Wright struck out looking to end the inning. In the bottom of the 8th inning Wagner came into relieve Giants Closer Brian Wilson, but provided no relief at all. Wagner came in with the NL leading by a score of 3-2, but gave up a single to Indians Center Fielder Grady Sizemore, who then stole second, and then a game-tying double to left field to Tampa Bay Third Baseman Evan Longoria. Wagner then got Twins First Baseman Justin Morneau to ground out to end the inning.
In the top of the 11th, Wright came up for the second time, and struck out for the second time. In the top of the 13th, he singled to center, but was out at second after Washington Nationals Short Stop Cristian Guzman bunted into a fielder's choice. In the top of the 15th, Wright walked to end his night 1 for 3 with a walk.
All in all, an ok night for Wright, a bad night for Wagner, and a bad night for the National League, as they lost the All-Star Game for the 12th time in a row to the American League.
